Door-to-Door Soliciting

Door Knocking Picture

The City of Mercer Island requires solicitors to fill out a Soliciting License Application and carry the license at all times when soliciting. Solicitors must produce the license when requested by persons being solicited, police, or City officials.

Door-to-door soliciting is only allowed between the hours of 10:00 AM and 9:00 PM, including weekends and holidays.

If electric bicycles, Segways, motorized scooters, etc. are used for travel, they must be left on the sidewalk or right-of-way when visiting a home or business.

The following do not need soliciting licenses:

  • Newspaper carriers;
  • Not-for-profit solicitors;
  • Peddlers of fruits, vegetables, berries, eggs or any farm produce edibles raised, gathered, produced or manufactured by such person;
  • A person who, after having been specifically requested by another to do so, calls upon that other person for the purpose of displaying or delivering goods, literature or giving information about any article, thing, product or service; and
  • All persons under the age of eighteen (18) unless employed by another person or organization.
