Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14 at the Mercer Island Community and Events Center (8236 S.E. 24th Street)
When an African boy arrives by cargo ship in the port city of Le Havre, an aging shoe shiner takes pity on the child and welcomes him into his home.
This 2011 comedy/drama was produced, written and directed by Aki Kaurismaki. It received the FIPRESCI Prize for best film at the Cannes Film Festival, and won several other international film awards.
Rotten Tomatoes' critical consensus reads: "Aki Kaurismaki's deadpan wit hits a graceful note with "Le Havre," a comedy/drama that's sweet, sad and uplifting in equal measure."
The film will be introduced by Lance Rhoades, well-known film scholar and lecturer. It's in French, with English subtitles.
No admission charge, but donations are gratefully accepted! Merci beaucoup!
