New Playground Equipment Slated For Mercerdale Park
Jan 30, 2021 - The City's Mercerdale Park will be getting new playground equipment this spring, along with new drainage and a rubber play surface. The public is invited to offer ideas and opinions at a virtual public meeting on Monday, February 8 from 7:00 to 8:30pm, using ZOOM. Meeting participants will interact online with City staff and a playground specialist to learn about the choices for new equipment.
The existing playground is 19 years old and the equipment is at the end of its useful life; the ground cover chips have also broken down and are clogging the drainage system. The level of the play surface will be raised to meet the top of the existing concrete edging to improve accessibility, but the edging, seating and landscaping will remain in place. This January, the City closed the Mercerdale Playground area to all users due to safety concerns and persistent standing water.
