CALL FOR ARTISTS: MERCER ISLAND DESIGN COMPETITION

 

2023 ARTIST CALL FOR DESIGN

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: April 15, 2023

PRIZE: $500.00

OPPORTUNITY: The Mercer Island Arts Council and the City of Mercer Island invite amateur and professional artists to enter a competition for a design highlighting the City of Mercer Island events. This design will be premiered at Summer Celebration 2023, as the event shirt(s) and used for various merchandise options throughout the year. Designs should reflect the spirit of Mercer Island, love for the community and what Mercer Island means to the artist. Originality and creativity are paramount.

ELIGIBILITY: This project is open to all professional and amateur artists who reside within the City of Mercer Island. There is no minimum age to apply. City of Mercer Island employees and Arts Council members are not eligible to apply.

RULES AND GUIDELINES:

  • Only one design submission per artist.
  • All designs must be original creations of the artist. Submissions must not have been previously published and must not contain profanity, trademarks, other organizations' logos or any copyrighted works of any other person or business.
  • Understand that this design will be the property of the City of Mercer Island. The artist can show the image for promotion/portfolio/resume purposes only, however they cannot sell or reuse the same image for any other project.
  • Winning designer must agree to sign a waiver to allow the City of Mercer Island the use of design for all printing and promotional pieces.
  • The City of Mercer Island reserves the right to sell merchandise with selected design.
  • Merchandise will be worn and sold to a variety of ages.
  • Upon selection of the winning design, the artist agrees to deliver the source files for the design to the City. The City prefers the source files be delivered in .indd, .ai, .svg, or other high-resolution vector format for use cross multiple print and digital platforms.

SELECTION COMMITTEE: The selection committee is three members in size, consisting of three Arts Council Events Committee members. The jury process is a blind jury review. Only the staff liaison to the Events Committee will know the artist’s name and contact information. The staff liaison is not a voting member of the selection committee. The winning artist will be awarded $500 for their design, which will be paid upon acceptance of final design and signed waiver.

SUBMISSION: Design submissions must be in .pdf format and sent via email to: Katie.herzog@mercerisland.gov by 11:59pm on April 15, 2023.

  • By submitting an entry, you are agreeing to all contest rules.
  • Please include a short description of the design, which includes the artist’s name, street address, phone number and email address.  
  • The winning artist will be notified by email and phone by May 15, 2023.
