August 17 | Join us for a Luther Burbank Clean-Up and Swim After!

Did you know that Luther Burbank Park is named after a botanist that was studying how to make a thornless blackberry that was shelf stable? Ironically, it is because of him that the Himalayan blackberry was introduced to the Pacific Northwest! Now these blackberries grow extensively across the PNW, including right here in Luther Burbank Park, and they’re growing over our native plants.

Come join us for an afternoon park clean-up where we will be removing blackberries from our native plantings. It will be a great chance to get your hands in the dirt, learn about native plants and our local forests, and work alongside neighbors and friends! No experience necessary, all ages welcome; gloves and tools are provided.

Plus you can jump in the lake after!

  • When: Thursday, August 17th, 10am-12pm
  • Where: Luther Burbank North Parking lot, follow VOLUNTEER EVENT Signs
  • What to bring: Dress for the weather in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty (think: long pants, boots or sneakers). Bring a water bottle. Small snacks, gloves, and tools will be provided.
