Wendy was elected to Mercer Island City Council in 2015 and reelected in 2019. She was elected by the City Council to serve as Deputy Mayor for 2020-2021. Before joining the Council, Wendy served on the Mercer Island Utility Board for five years and was a member of the Town Center Visioning Group in 2014 and 2015. Over the years, Wendy has been active in the PTAs at Island Park Elementary, Islander Middle School, Mercer Island High School, and the Mercer Island Band Boosters. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the UW Evans School of Public Policy and completed the Leadership Eastside program.
In her professional life, Wendy has over 20 years of public relations experience facilitating and leading community engagement programs for private companies and nonprofit organizations. She currently works at Republic Services as a Municipal Manager, volunteers with several Mercer Island nonprofits, and serves on the Association of Washington Cities Board of Directors and Sound Cities Association Board of Directors.
