Meet Judge Gregory
Judge Jeff Gregory was appointed to the Mercer Island Municipal Court by the Mercer Island City Council to begin service on January 1, 2022. Judge Gregory was raised in Kelso, Washington. He received his AA degree in 1995 from Lower Columbia college where he also played college baseball. He then transferred and graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1997. He received his Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law in 2000.
Judge Gregory began his legal career as a deputy prosecuting attorney in the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office where he rose to the rank of Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in 2008. He then opened a small law firm in Bellevue in 2010 where he provided criminal defense and family law services until 2014. Feeling a pull to return public service Judge Gregory joined a local law firm specializing in municipal contract services for public defense. Judge Gregory worked as a public defender in the municipal courts throughout King County until 2019. It was also during this time, Judge Gregory began to serve as Judge Pro Tempore to multiple courts in the area.
Since 2019, until his appointment as Presiding Judge in Mercer Island Court, Judge Gregory continued to provide pro tem services to many municipal and district courts throughout King County including Mercer Island Municipal Court. He also worked part time as an Administrative Law Judge for the state’s Office of Administrative Hearings. Judge Gregory has also served as an adjunct professor at Central Washington University where he taught in the law and justice program.
Outside of the legal field, Judge Gregory has served his community in many capacities. He founded and sat as president of the eastside select baseball program, the Wildcats Baseball Club. He has also served as board member and vice-president of his local junior football association where he also coached in the organization for many years. Judge Gregory has also served and coached for his local little league from 2011 to 2018. He currently lives in the east King County area and manages a local teen level select baseball team within the Seattle Elite baseball league.
