Forest Steward Orientation | Luther Burbank Park
Do you love Mercer Island Parks? Do you want to learn more about forest restoration? Do you want to have a more active role in helping to care for your local park or open space? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then consider becoming a Mercer Island Forest Steward!
Forest Stewards help ecological restoration efforts on the island through one or more of the following:
- Adopting a park, or section of a park, and preforming various restoration tasks like weed removal, native planting, mulching, etc
- Leading volunteer efforts
- Helping provide educational opportunities to the public
If you're interested in joining a group of like-minded enthusiastic nature lovers. and want to make a difference in your community, please fill out an application (linked below under supporting documents) and email it to jordan.fischer@mercerisland.gov before our next orientation.
Orientation Details
- What: This will be a two-hour long workshop with both an indoor and outdoor component. During the orientation you will learn about the basics of ecological restoration, history of restoration efforts on the island, and how to lead volunteer events.
- When: Thursday, April 10th, 5-7pm
- Where: Luther Burbank Park Admin Building
- What to bring: Dress for the weather in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty (think: long pants, boots or sneakers). Bring water. Small snacks, gloves, and tools will be provided.
- Registration: You must fill out an application form before being able to register for this event. After you send in the application to jordan.fischer@mercerisland.gov you will receive registration information.
