Mercer Island Recycling Event

Our Biannual Sustainability Event...

Save-the-Date! Safely dispose of the old equipment, hardware, appliances, and other household items that are cluttering your basement or garage at the annual Mercer Island Spring Recycling Event on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Islander Middle School Parking Lot - 7447 84th Ave SE. This is a newer event location. 

TRAFFIC: We see up to 600 vehicles during these events, so please expect to line up as there can be delays. Entry is via the north driveway at Islander Middle School and ends at 3:00pm sharp! Follow the signs.

NOTES:

  • We will offer Paper Shredding as usual, 5 box limit (yes, you can watch the shredder if you wish!) - DO NOT bring pre-shredded paper, this cannot be accepted. *The material is placed in totes and shredded once the totes are full.
  • We will sell recycled plastic Rain Barrels (30gallon) and Compost/Worm Bins, one per visitor, for $25 cash each
  • White Styrofoam blocks and bagged packing peanuts (any color) will be accepted. Look for the "EPS" or "Plastic#6" marking on materials.

DONATE to YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES:

  • We appreciate donations in support of the food security programs at Mercer Island Youth & Family Services. The MIYFS Foundation will be accepting cash, check, and credit card donations at the event. Donations are tax deductible and help fellow Islanders experiencing food insecurity.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE:

Household Hazardous Waste is not accepted at these events but can be taken to King County’s Factoria collection site Tuesday-Sunday; more information and hours can be found online or by calling 206-296-4692. (Note: there is a limit of 25 gallons of gasoline and other automotive fluids per trip and containers must be 5 gallons or smaller; please separate motor oil from all other fluids).

Most items are free, but some have a fee. Cash only please - exact change appreciated. 

  • Air Conditioner $35
  • Fridge or Freezer: $35
  • Mattress or Boxspring [Must be dry]: $35
  • Propane Tanks [Residential only]: $10
  • Tires [Limit 6]: small car tires free; extra tires off rim $3; car tire on rim $6; truck tire $10; truck tire on rim $20
  • Toilets and sinks: $25
  • Water Heater w/insulation: $5
