Gun Buyback
On Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 9:00am - 12:00pm the Mercer Island Police Department is hosting an anonymous gun buyback event for Mercer Island residents.*
Residents are welcome to safely turn in their unwanted firearms in exchange for a gift card.
The event will take place at Mercer Island City Hall campus (9611 SE 36th Street). Participants should use the eastern driveway from SE 36th St. and follow signage and staff directions. See map for details.
Event Safety Procedures
To help ensure a safe transfer for participants and staff, firearms must be unloaded and transported in the trunk of the vehicle. Participants will be asked to remain in the vehicle unless told otherwise by staff.
Firearm Classification and Gift Card Distribution
Certified firearms specialists will inspect firearms and make the final determination about acceptance and classification (working/non-working, bolt-action, etc.).
Gift card quantities are limited and subject to availability. Staff reserve the right to limit the number of gift cards an individual may receive regardless of the number of firearms surrendered.
Gift card tiers:
- $25 for non-working firearms and pellet guns
- $100 for bolt-action rifles and shotguns
- $200 for handguns
- $250 for assault-style rifles
Next Steps
Surrendered firearms will be cataloged and destroyed. No identifiable information will be collected or cataloged. For details about this process please contact Commander Seifert via email or (206) 275-7901.
*Participation in the gun buyback event is voluntary and anonymous, however participants must show proof of Mercer Island residency (identification card, utility bill, etc.) to be eligible for a gift card.
