Police Department Investigating Hate Speech Vandalism

May 17, 2024 - Earlier this week, signage advertising the upcoming Pride in the Park event and park property were vandalized with anti-LGBTQ hate speech. The Mercer Island Police Department was notified and City staff promptly removed the vandalism. Police detectives are investigating the case.

The City and Police Department treat targeted harassment very seriously. Pride in the Park is a community event organized collaboratively between students, residents and the City’s recreation division to provide an all-ages, family-friendly gathering for LGBTQ+ Islanders and allies. Mercer Island Police Officers will be present in the area of Pride in the Park, as is the case with other community events.
