Reported Luring Incident Under Investigation
July 22, 2024 - Mercer Island Police Department is actively investigating a reported luring incident that occurred at approximately 8:30 AM today.
A child in the 2400 block of SE 63rd Ave SE was approached outside their home by an unknown adult who asked the child to get in his vehicle. The child immediately informed their parents, who then notified the Mercer Island Police Department. Officers were dispatched to the scene quickly to search the neighborhood and interview the family. The mother reported that the same unknown adult may have contacted their child the day before, but the matter was not reported to Police. The child is safe at home.
Officers continue to canvass the neighborhood and conduct interviews with neighbors to collect more information. This remains an active and open investigation.
While a similar incident occurred earlier this summer involving a different child, there is currently no evidence linking the two events. Both incidents are under active investigation.
The Mercer Island Police Department takes every report it receives seriously and uses an abundance of caution when those reports involve children. We will share more information with the community about the investigation as it becomes available.
It is critical to remain vigilant and attentive and report any suspicious activity to the Mercer Island Police Department.
