Fire Permits and Fire Prevention Information
Fire Marshal Office
Fire Marshal Office staff provide plan review for commercial, residential, and special projects. Mercer Island has a unique and motivated community that considers fire prevention a priority. Maintaining a progressive, motivated, and educated team is our priority and commitment to the community and its residents. Team members have earned various certifications from the International Code Council (ICC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), as well as fire investigation credentials from the International Association of Arson Investigators, National Association of Fire Investigators, and the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA). The Fire Marshal's Office assists the community and businesses with fire protection needs, assessments, and pre-planning. Involving the Fire Marshal Office early during project development is highly recommended as fire protection systems are often the backbone of most buildings and can lead to different architectural design features.
How to apply for a fire permit?
Fire permit applications are submitted online. For detailed instructions on how to apply for a fire permit click here.
How to schedule a fire inspection?
All fire inspections need to be scheduled online at Eastside Fire and Rescue's Webpage. Please do not request fire inspections via MyBuildingPermit.com. Note that inspections take 48-72 hours advanced notice to schedule and staff may take up to 24 hours to return your call. We appreciate your patience. If you have any questions please contact Fire Marshal Jeromy Hicks at 206-275-7966.
How to submit Fire Protection System Confidence Reports?

This helps our agency, business owners, and contractors maintain and track commercial fire protection systems which includes:
- Clean Agent Systems
- Emergency Back-up Power Generators
- Fire Alarm Systems
- Fire Doors

- Kitchen Range Hoods
- Sprinkler Systems
