Land Use and Planning
Our Land Use Planning Team processes all land use and development applications consistent with adopted planning and development regulations. Seventy percent of the team's work is the analysis and issuance of zoning decisions, short plats, shoreline permits, variances, deviations and major design reviews within the guidelines of the Unified Land Development Code.

Hearing Examiner - Public Hearings
Chapter 19.15 of the Mercer Island City Code (MICC) requires that City staff conduct a public hearing before a Hearing Examiner for certain types of land use decisions, as well as for appeals of various land use decisions. The City currently has a contract with John Galt, an independent hearing examiner, to provide services for public hearings. Mr. Galt will conduct the public hearings using the City of Mercer Island Hearing Examiner Rules of Procedure dated December 2, 2019. A copy of these rules are available below.
