The Mercer Island Community Planning and Development Department’s Building team has the following guidelines and expectations for permit applications for residential dock repairs, alterations, and new construction.

Basic Decks (decks not located in geologically hazardous areas, or within critical area buffers) may qualify as simple projects.
If not a simple deck they will be routed normally.

Minor Repairs / Minor Projects

Projects limited in scope and impact such as but not limited to: Skylights or Simple Window / Door sizing changes Minor Repairs

Interior Remodel – Non Structural

Scope of work limited to the interior not affecting the structure of a building. Bathroom remodels, kitchen remodels (without removal of load bearing walls).

Scope of work limited to the interior affecting the structure of a building. I.e. Beams, posts, or lateral resistance.

Re-roof permits for single family residential structures are required when sheathing is replaced or when the type of roofing material is changed.
