NOTE: In Mercer Island, the allowed work hours for construction projects are: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (except holidays), and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. No work may be performed on Sunday and holidays. Please see MICC 8.24.020 for more information. The City observes the following holidays:

  • New Year's Day: January 1
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day: third Monday in January
  • Presidents' Day: third Monday in February
  • Memorial Day: last Monday in May
  • Juneteenth: June 19
  • 4th of July
  • Labor Day: first Monday in September
  • Veterans' Day: November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day: fourth Thursday in November
  • Day After Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day: December 25
How to Schedule an Inspection

Most inspections are scheduled online at MyBuildingPermit.com. This site provides "same day" service for many inspection types if you make your request by 6 a.m. (see exceptions below). Fire System and Fire Protection inspections are requested online EastsideFire-Rescue.org.

The Fire Marshal's office will call you to schedule your inspection date and time.  They will typically return your call within 24 business hours.   Please allow up to  72 hours of advanced notice for scheduling.  We appreciate your patience.  If you have any questions please contact Fire Marshal Jeromy Hicks at 206-275-7966.

When to Schedule an Inspection

Once a permit is obtained, you must request inspection.  Call for inspection prior to covering and/or concealing any work.  If you are unsure of when to call for an inspection, please contact our Customer Service Team (CST) at (206) 275-7605.

You may also call our Permit Services Team (PST) during business hours to check the status of your inspection at (206) 275-7605. Have your permit number ready to ensure efficiency. Please keep in mind that due to the nature of inspections, it is unlikely that you will receive an exact time for your inspection. An inspector's schedule changes periodically due to the situation s/he encounters at each site. Thank you for understanding.
