Residential Solar Power Permits
All residential rooftop PV Solar Installations require an electrical permit. Some residential installations also require a structural review to ensure that the rooftop can accommodate the added load. But most residential installations are able to follow the exemption pathway listed below.
Prepare
Review the criteria on the Exemption from Building Permit Criteria. If your installation meets all of the listed criteria, you can submit for an over the counter electrical permit for your Rooftop PV Installation. If your installation does not meet all of the criteria, you must prepare and submit construction documents for plan review.

Select a contractor, and make sure that they have a Mercer Island Business License.

For installations that meet the Exemption from Building Permit Criteria:
- Electrical Permit Application Form
Be sure to include all required information on the application form. - Declaration of Exemption from Building Permit Form
Be sure to sign and date the form.

Submit your plans, forms and supplemental documents to the Mercer Island Permit Submittal Portal.
